Taco on the Go..

The new Border Grill truck, a shiny black beast emblazoned with funky white graffiti, features classic Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger specialties like braised achiote pork tacos topped with orange-jicama slaw ($3), tangy mahi mahi ceviche cones ($5) and hot churro poppers ($5). It just started to roll around town two weeks ago, but with enough notice, it can be your own private taco truck for a party or event.

Looking good's not just for the ladies!

One Fresh Events Company bride scheduled her fiance to get some touchups on the wedding day and participate in some skin care regimen before the wedding. When she told me about it in front of the groom, his cheeks flushed and he said, "Oh no you didn't!" (Bless his heart :)

I think it may have been embarrassing for him to admit that, but I don't think he was embarrassed AFTER getting the services which he found to be quite relaxing. Luxury and indulging. AND, made him feel great, he told me after the wedding...

Which brings me to my next point. Looking good AND feeling good on wedding day is not just for the ladies! So often the women have their personal hair and makeup entourage for the wedding while the men (ie: groom, groomsmen) get overlooked in that department. Which is why I love Craig the Barber, a professional grooming concierge service specifically for men, who is mobile and travels directly to you! They do shaving, haircuts, and that convenience and luxury I think any man would love, during a special occasion or just because.

Creative Table Number Ideas

I love finding new ways to display information. I have seen this idea before, but here is the step by step instruction how its done. Enjoy!

Darcy Miller, the editorial director of Martha Stewart Weddings, shows us how to make wine-bottle labels, a very popular trend in weddings.

Tools and Materials
Design and print wine bottle label (approximately 2 3/4" wide by 5 3/4" high)
Wine bottle
Bowl of warm water
Razor blade
Goo Gone
Heavyweight paper
Scissors
Permanent adhesive cartridge or double-sided tape
Xyron machine

Wine Label How-To
1. Design and print wine bottle label (approximately 2 3/4" wide by 5 3/4" high).
2. Remove label of wine bottle; soak in warm water, scrape with razor blade, and clean up with Goo Gone.
3. Print template on heavyweight paper.
4. Cut out on the outside of the black line.
5. Run through Xyron machine with permanent adhesive cartridge and stick to bottle or use double-sided tape and attach to bottle.

A LIttle Bit of Japan in LA

Having come back on a trip from Asia, I've realized that living in LA is like having access to the world. Seriously, we're so lucky to have so much cultural diversity in LA, which is reflected in its food, plethora of entertainment and destinations.

Recently, we've had the pleasure to visit the newly renovated Kyoto Grand in Downtown LA to explore their new Japanese touches, reflected in their beautiful Pangea Gardens (complete with waterfalls) and their new rooms. Their newly renovated rooms have a mod-Asian flair to them, and are perfect for out of town guests since it's in the center of Little Toyko. I know we've booked some rooms there for out of town guests when we've had events at the nearby stunning Vibiana, and the gardens there would be a great setting for a small intimate wedding or shower of 50 or less.

So if the travel bug has bit, but you can't spare more than a weekend, check out the Kyoto Grand as your stop to Japan in LA!

Enchanted Forest Wedding

I stumbled across a picture of a wedding we planned early this year at the Altadena Country Club - which we dubbed our Enchanted Forest wedding... I believe this was actually the bride's exact words, and enchanted it was, with purple tones and uplights, tree-like centerpieces (you can kinda see them on some tables), and a giant window looking out into green trees and shrubbery and a blue sky dotted with clouds. It literally looked like an extension of the "enchanted forest" theme.

The cake was awesome with a bevy of hand made butterflies the colors of the rainbow going from the bottom tier to the top tier. I loved the textured purple linens we helped the bride choose - such as an unexpected color for a forest theme - an amazing touch!

Relax, Beathe Easy

Came across this recently. It captured my attention instantly. This is where technology meets beauty.

Breathe Easy is an aeroponic growing system designed to improve home air quality. It utilizes toxin absorbing plants that clean the air and add humidity. It also doesn’t hurt to bring some of nature’s green indoors too. The plants are held in place by magnetic seals in the top opening. It’s a little confusing since the renders don’t say much but the familiar gel based nutrient substrate is tried and true. As an added touch, a row of LED lights line the bottom for some nice ground effects.

Wedding Tips

1) Create a wedding website: this can easily help you communicate with your guests regarding wedding information, activities, maps, registry, etc.

2) Bride walking down the aisle: nowadays, people get creative with traditions. It used to be just Father of the Bride walking the bride down the aisle. Don't want your mom to feel left out, why not have both of your parents walk you down the aisle.

3) Use your money where it counts. Forget the favors and do a photobooth, candy, tea, nuts station instead!

4) Add color to your wedding by having a signature cocktail in your wedding colors. make a signage to let your guests know about the signature cocktail.

5) Surprise each other: brides- surprise your groom with a groom's cake. Favorite football team logo on cake, this is the time to be creative! Grooms- surprise your bride with a piece of jewelry or gift that you know she will love!
